Course summary

A Level Ancient History lets you dive into the drama of Greece and Rome. You’ll study epic events like the Persian and Peloponnesian Wars, discover what made Sparta a fearsome warrior society, and explore the rise of Rome’s first emperors. We then turn to Roman Britain to see how the Romans conquered, ruled, and faced fierce resistance like Boudica’s revolt. Along the way, you’ll analyse real ancient sources and sharpen your skills in debate, argument, and critical thinking.

Entry requirements

If you have studied History GCSE, you need to have achieved a Grade 6 as a minimum as well as a minimum of a Grade 6 in English GCSE. If you have not studied History GCSE, then you must have achieved a minimum of a Grade 6 in English GCSE. You will also need to have an interest in History and be motivated to read around the topics to develop your understanding.

How you'll be assessed

Two 2.5 hour exams at the end of the 2 year course.
