This is the course for you if you have an interest in working in the social care, health care or education fields. The course will appeal to you if you enjoy studying a subject that is relevant to your own life and experience and are interested in developing an understanding of caring organisations and the clients they serve. The course is ideal if you want to move on to a related career or higher vocational courses and degrees in nursing and midwifery. The qualification is designed to provide a broad introduction to the vocational area of health and social care across 3 mandatory units and 1 optional unit. The mandatory units cover the following topics: • Human Lifespan and Development – PIES and factors affecting growth and development, interventions and the different professionals providing care and treatment • Human Biology and Health – Human body structure and systems, normal physiological functioning and the impact of common disorders • Health and Social Care Practice – Core principles, values and legislation that underpin and influence health and social care, Students will develop vital skills from the mandatory units supporting applications for further study or employment: • Professional values and skills expected of professionals, including communication and listening skills • Cultural and social intelligence when working with individuals across the lifespan with different needs, alongside methods of managing challenging situations • Organisational and critical thinking skills Students can also develop other transferable skills such time management and the ability to take personal responsibility for themselves and their learning
English or Maths GCSE at level 4 plus 3 other GCSEs at level 4
The AAQ qualification is equivalent to 1 A level and has the same UCAS points. You will study FOUR modules, unit 1 and unit 2 which are assessed by external exams and unit 3 and an optional unit which are assignment based and are assessed by your teacher.
