Staff Contact: Mr Muir TMU@cheneyschool.org What is Further Mathematics all about? This course runs alongside A Level Mathematics in which you will extend and deepen your knowledge of proof, algebra, functions, calculus, vectors and differential equations studied in A Level Mathematics. You will also broaden your knowledge in other areas of pure mathematics and other numerate subjects with complex numbers, matrices, polar coordinates and hyperbolic functions. You will be expected to be able to use your knowledge to reason mathematically and solve problems within mathematics and in context. Course structure: 2 x compulsory Pure Core Mathematics 90-minute papers (Pure Core 1 and Pure Core 2); 2 x 25%. 2 x optional 90-minute papers, chosen from Statistics, Mechanics, Additional Pure and Discrete Mathematics; 2 x 25%. Complementary courses: Science and social sciences subjects; particularly beneficial for Physics. Leads to: Some universities require Further Mathematics for entry to Mathematics degree courses; desirable if applying to some Russell Group Universities to study subjects such as Physics and Engineering. Covered by the Library textbook deposit scheme.
