Course summary

AQA A Level Economics helps you understand how people, businesses and governments decide how to use scarce resources. You will explore real-world issues that affect your everyday life: why prices for trainers or concert tickets rise, how interest rates influence student loans and mortgages, or why some brands dominate the market while others disappear. The course is split into two main areas: In Microeconomics, you’ll look at how markets work, competition between firms and the reasons for market failure—like the impact of social media companies on privacy. In Macroeconomics, you’ll study the bigger picture: what causes inflation, how government spending affects jobs, or why global events—such as changes in oil prices or new technology—shape the UK economy. Lessons combine discussion, data analysis and problem-solving, developing your ability to think critically and apply concepts to everyday economic questions.
