GCSE Physical Education
Course summary
Studying GCSE Physical Education gives students an amazing opportunity to extend their skills in practical lessons (40%) and develop and apply that knowledge of physical, psychological and social aspects of sport in theory lessons (60%). There is a wide variety of sports and students will be practically assessed in 3 sports (both individual and team sports). The theory aspect of the course (2 external exams) focuses on key terminology and definitions of the knowledge of how the human body works to help it move and provide energy to participate in sport, the psychological reasons athletes act the way they do, what drives them to succeed and the sociocultural aspects of sport; why are some sports more male dominated than others and does the media affect the world of sport? This course is a must for anyone who enjoys all aspects of sport, both the theory (60%) and practical (40%) aspects and can lead to a wide variety of jobs involving sport and the media, physiotherapy, coaching, Sports Science, Physical Education teaching and many more. This course is more weighted towards external theory exams which involve multiple choice, short answer questions and extended development questions and students should be competent at 3 different sports both individual where we offer the opportunity to get assessed in cycling and team sports which are completed in school.
