BTEC Musical Theatre

Course summary
This is a course for students who love performing and want to develop their skills to a professional standard. You’ll train in the three core disciplines of acting, singing and dance, exploring how they work together to create powerful musical theatre performances. Throughout the course, you’ll study everything from vocal technique and choreography to script interpretation and theatre styles, developing confidence, creativity and stagecraft along the way. At Kesgrave Sixth Form we also have a wide variety of productions that you can be a part of either as an actor, singer, dancer, choreographer, director, designer or backstage crew. You’ll be taught by several of our specialist teachers (primarily Drama led with Music and Dance teachers). You’ll learn through dynamic, practical studio based sessions with activities including: • Practical workshops in singing, dance and acting • Masterclasses from visiting professionals • Rehearsal periods leading to public performances • Collaborative ensemble work • Independent study, research and reflective practice Teaching mirrors professional rehearsal environments, helping you build confidence, discipline and the ability to work creatively as part of a company. This qualification offers a strong foundation for anyone aiming to pursue a creative or performance based career. Many students progress to: • Drama school, conservatoire or specialist musical theatre training • University courses in performing arts, acting, dance, musical theatre or creative industries • Professional careers such as performer, actor, dancer, singer, choreographer, theatre technician, director or arts educator The course also builds transferable skills—communication, teamwork, confidence, creativity—that are valued in a wide range of careers both within and beyond the arts.
