GCSE Religion, Philosophy and Ethics

Course summary

Religion, Philosophy and Ethics is an intellectually challenging and interesting course, offering students the opportunity to explore and discuss some of the most important issues in contemporary society. Students will explore a wide variety of topics, become informed, independent thinkers and develop key skills in the construction of academic arguments. The course consists of in-depth study of the beliefs and practices of Christianity and Islam and consideration of religious and non-religious responses to the following themes: • Relationships and families • Religion and life • The existence of God and revelation • Religion, human rights and social justice Students will be challenged with questions about belief, values, meaning, purpose and truth, enabling them to develop their own attitudes towards religious issues. Students will also gain an appreciation of how religion, philosophy and ethics form the basis of our culture. They will develop analytical and critical thinking skills, the ability to work with abstract ideas, leadership and research skills, all of which will help prepare them for further study. All the topics studied on this course are relevant to the modern day. Personal religious belief is not a requirement and we hope that students will bring a range of different perspectives to the course. Who should I speak to about this subject?
