Course summary

The OCR Level 3 AAQ Cambridge Advanced National in Health & Social Care (Extended Certificate) aims to provide an introduction to the Health and Social Care sector through applied learning. It is for learners who are interested in learning about the Health and Social Care sector as part of a balanced study programme which includes theoretical study alongside application of skills as well as enrichment activities such as possible attendance on NHS Discovery Days, where students get to experience first hand the work of the local NHS Trust. The Certificate (1 year) is equivalent in size to 0.5 of an A Level and will be delivered over 5 teaching units in a week (180 guided learning hours) The OCR Level 3 AAQ Cambridge Advanced National in Health & Social Care (Certificate) is made up of 3 units, all mandatory, of which 1 is external: F090: Principles of health and social care; and the other two are portfolio work assessed internally: F092: Person-centred approach to care and F093: Supporting people with mental health conditions. Students who are successful in completion of the Certificate in Health and Social Care during Year 12 can carry on into Year 13 to complete the Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care which is the equivalent of one A level (360 guided learning hours). The Extended Certificate qualification requires students to complete a further three units of work in addition to those studied during Year 12.
