Health and Social Care (Single Award)

Course summary

A 2 year course where students gain a single A level qualification and will develop professional and personal skills through interaction with people who either work in the sector or require care or support, as well as theoretical knowledge and understanding to underpin their skills. This course will provide learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding that will allow them to progress onto Higher Education on a health and social care-related programme such as Health and Social Care, Nursing, Social Work or Early Childhood Studies. Learners will learn by applying their skills, knowledge and understanding to tasks or activities that are relevant to what happens in health, social care and child care workplaces. Course Details Year 1 Principles of Health and Social Care (Exam). Within this Unit, you will learn about how you can support equality, diversity and rights in health and social care settings. Anatomy and Physiology for health and social care (Exam). In this Unit, you will learn about the different body systems, their structure, their function and explore different conditions and how they might affect the functionality of these systems. Person-centred approach to care (NEA). In this Unit, you will learn about the principles and values that underpin a person-centred approach to care. Year 2 Supporting people with mental health conditions (NEA). Within this Unit, you will learn about how individuals with mental health conditions can be cared for and supported in a way which is suitable for their needs. Supporting healthy nutrition and lifestyles (NEA). In this Unit, you will learn about the healthy eating guidelines, physical activity guidelines, nutritional labelling and the sources of nutrients. Supporting people with long term physiological conditions (NEA). Within this Unit, you will learn about the different types of long-term physiological conditions, how they are caused and the long-term effects on an individual.
