FAQs

How does the school support the transition to Sixth Form?

The Sixth Form offers a strong pastoral programme which supports students in managing the demands of Sixth Form study. Students are explicitly taught independent study skills and are supported during their study sessions by our Sixth Form Study Centre Supervisor. The Sixth Form Team monitor students closely during the first few weeks of Year 12 to ensure that all students are on the right courses and are managing increased levels of independence well. If there are any concerns, bespoke programmes of support are offered to ensure that each student is able to flourish. During induction, there are team building activities which encourage collaborative working and ensure that all students get to know each other. We have a high number of students who join our Sixth Form from a wide range of other schools, and activities are designed to ensure that all students are able to develop positive and supportive friendships.

How does the school make sure students are stretched to meet their potential?

Well-pitched lesson planning is the most effective way to stretch our most able students. Over the past few years we have worked with teaching staff to ensure they are able to build challenge into every activity. This work has been recognised beyond the school, and we have contributed to Camden-wide Gifted and Talented programmes. This day-to-day work is complimented by an enrichment curriculum that offers students a host of opportunities. The Hampstead Advanced Programme continues this trend; students receive personalised support in developing the skill set, achieving the grade profile, and having the confidence to apply for the best Russell Group universities and high-end apprenticeship schemes. Our 'Medicine Society' for aspiring medics and dentists offers personalised support for University applications.

What enrichment opportunities will students have?

We work alongside several partners such as Google's AI Campus, Future Leaders, The Photographers Gallery and Southampton University to ensure that students have access to opportunities beyond the curriculum that equip them with the skills and experience needed to compete on a global stage. We also have strong partnerships with Camden STEAM and UCLH who provide our students with incredible work experience opportunities in Year 12.

If my child needs additional academic support, what is the offer?

Our expert Inclusion Facility supports students with additional needs inside and outside of the classroom. This support is personalised to meet the needs of each student and so we would encourage you to contact the school to arrange a one-to-one discussion about the provision on offer.

What pastoral support is in place?

We pride ourselves on the pastoral support at Hampstead School. Heads of Year and the wider Sixth Form team foster positive relationships with students and families. Tutors support our young people on a daily basis and our Sixth Form Study Centre Supervisor has regular check-ins with students.

What can students go on to do after Sixth Form?

Our students go on to a wide range of destinations after their time in the Sixth Form. Many students will go to university, some will begin apprenticeships and others will enter the world of work.

How well do students achieve at Hampstead School?

Every year, Hampstead School Sixth Form students achieve fantastic grades and - more importantly - go on to some inspirational destinations. At A-Level, attainment has increased by a whole grade per qualification since 2019; two thirds of grades are at an A*-C, and a significant number of students achieve A*-A across all subjects. We have a comprehensive progression programme, contributed to by universities, apprenticeship providers, and employers. In 2025, over 80% of UCAS applicants secured a place at their first-choice university.
