Welcome to Central Foundation Boys' School

Central Foundation is a popular and over-subscribed comprehensive school for boys aged 11 to 16, with a successful co-educational Sixth Form.A Central Foundation education involves providing our students with a wide range of educational experiences, including the academic, sporting, musical, dramatic, debating and public speaking. Our aim is that through this provision the students develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they all need to lead successful lives, but in addition it allows the students to develop their own unique talents and confidence and to forge their individual paths in life.Underpinning a Central Foundation education is rigour and a drive for excellence. We are rightly proud of our students’ examination results. In the last few years these results have consistently shown the school to be one of the leading educators of boys in the country. These exam outcomes have enabled our students to access a very ambitious selection of universities. The school’s approach that supports the students to achieve academically is also seen across the whole of our educational provision. At Central Foundation there is an extraordinary range of talented and dedicated staff who give enormously of their time. They encourage academic enquiry and adventure, and exhibit and celebrate a love of learning.

Enrichment Activities

Show all activities
Every Wednesday afternoon, we shut down our main curriculum and run our wider provision. This is a time to try new experiences, learn new skills, socialise and have fun. Our extra-curricular is split into three key areas:

Health and fitness
we other a range of sports from football to basketball, boxing to gym. These are all great fun and very popular, but we also see our sporting enrichment as a chance to bridge skill gaps and make connections across the Sixth Form. We have a strong tradition of football and Sixth Form teams are entered into local and national competitions.
Cultural capital
Each Wednesday lunchtime, our KS5 students have access to a 30-minute lecture delivered by a member of staff or an external speaker. These cover a broad range of topics, ranging from ‘The garden as a metaphor in English Literature’ all the way to ‘Sampling in music’. Students learn how to effectively take notes. This series broadens horizons and prepares students for the next steps at university.
Giving back
The third and final branch of our enrichment is focuses on giving back. With a number of our pupils looking for a career in medicine or the medical sphere, we have used our geographical advantage to form an exciting partnership with the world-famous Moorfields Eye Hospital. Enrichment is a chance to instil values such as altruism and it gives me great pride that many of our 6th formers now volunteer for 3 hours per week, supporting the vulnerable and our local community. On top of that, many pupils give back to our School by volunteering.
