Welcome to Garratt Park School
The Sixth Form offer at Garratt Park is tailored to explore, expand and fulfill the ambitions of all students. In preparing our young people for their next steps into adulthood we believe in self advocacy and want them to know their voices are heard. We are responsive and flexible in our planning of the curriculum and wider offer to ensure that we meet the academic aspirations and pastoral needs of all at this pivotal time in their education.
All students follow two year courses across the curriculum to provide certainty and the best Pastoral chance of success. Students are tutored and taught in Lower and Upper Sixth Form groups but do have the opportunity to socialise across the year groups in dedicated sixth form spaces during unstructured times. Students benefit from small class sizes in all subjects and the opportunity to have supported personal study time to complete homework and catch up on any class work they may have missed.
Students have the opportunity to experience greater levels of independence as they move into the sixth form, with a dedicated pastoral support team and tried and tested systems in place to support this.
The curriculum is wide and varied and aimed at providing as broad an experience for students as possible as they begin to make decisions about their future. The core subjects are delivered at targeted levels, while students are also able to choose from a range of options that cover vocational as well as academic and enriching subjects. These options are chosen with student and parent input in the forward planning process in an effort to mold the curriculum to the cohort as they move into the Sixth Form.
Careers support and advice are built into the curriculum through work skills lessons with a focus on next steps and independence and ensuring that no student moves towards the end of their time with us without a carefully considered and personalised plan. One to one support is also available.
Students in the Sixth Form have the opportunity to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Award to Silver Level with the possibility of moving up to Gold. They can also access the full range of exciting after school clubs, links to AFC Wimbledon, Tooting Leisure Centre facilities through their PE lessons and extended work experience placements in areas that will enhance their future prospects.
