Welcome to Buckingham School

WelcomeAs Director of Sixth Form, it is a privilege to work with students who have chosen to explore their academic fields further, and support them through this next phase of their education. The Buckingham School's mission is Success for All. We value this over all else and understand that, especially in Year 12 and 13, success looks different for everyone. I unreservedly feel that the purpose of all Sixth Forms is to provide its students with all of the tools and opportunities they need to open doors to their future pathways. This will not always come easy. In fact, students that do well are often out of their comfort zone more than they expected to be but, believe me when I say, this is where the magic happens.Success for Sixth Form students at The Buckingham School comes in many forms, including: getting into their first choice Universities; securing jobs in their chosen career fields; and being selected for prestigious apprenticeship positions. There are well- established systems in place in the school to support our Sixth Form students, both academically and pastorally, and when students have engaged whole-heartedly with these, great success has been seen.In Sixth Form, the opportunities for leaming and challenge are taken to the next level and, as a result, Sixth Form students act as role models in all that they do. This includes getting involved with student leadership, mentoring younger students, using the resources and time afforded to them to grow their passion for the subjects they have chosen to study and exploit any and all opportunities to develop their character. This is where our 7 Virtues really do come into their own:Curiosity - use your time in Sixth Form to explore your subjects, read around yourtopics, talk to the staff around you about their career paths and University experiences -the best decisions are always informed onesEmpathy - get involved with mentoring, whether it be academic or pastoral, and thestudent leadership teamAmbition - aim to be that 1% better each dayResilience - Sixth Form will be difficult sometimes - you'll have work that you'll strugglewith or study time to focus in - each day is about getting up and getting on in order to besuccessful - it's what we do with our mistakes that countsConfidence - put yourself out there - get involved with careers opportunities, interviews, leadership, mentoring, ask questions in class, teach others, sit at the front - get what youneed out of your time hereRespect - in Sixth Form, you should expect to be respected but, that comes fromrespecting others too - this is your chance to be a role model to all who you come across- have a positive impact on their dayIntegrity - let's work together to build those independence skills so that when you sitdown to study, you get something out of it, so that you take it upon yourself to study insilence, find the answers and revise - do what's right but, not because we're asking youto, because you know it does help! Sixth Form is a new opportunity to start as you mean to go on, meet new people, reinvent yourself, study the subjects you're really interested in, to explore opportunities for the futureand achieve. If you're ready for the challenge, we'll be there with you, every step of the way.I hope that in reading this prospectus, you find most of the answers that you are looking for to help you make the right choice however, further questions are always more than welcome via sixthform@buckinghamschool.org.Mrs R Beaumont, Director of Sixth Form

In Year 12, the Level 2 Community Sports Leadership Award will help you to become a positive role model in Sport, to learn how to mentor others and to use your leadership skills in a variety of different ways. Achieving the nationally recognised Level 3 Higher Award enables you to lead unsupervised groups of people in sport and recreational activities. It teaches generic transferable leadership skills through the medium of sport.
