Welcome to Dee Banks School

A very warm welcome from our Headteacher

Welcome to Dee Banks school, a specialist school maintained by Cheshire West and Chester local authority. We provide an educational setting for pupils aged 2 to 19 years of age whose primary need is Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) or Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (also known as PMLD). Pupils must have an Education, Health, Care Plan (EHCP) to be able to attend Dee Banks school.

Many of our pupils have more than one diagnosis or special educational need but their primary need must be SLD or PMLD to ensure that we able to meet need and provide an appropriate environment, curriculum and peer group.

Our curriculum is very individual and tailored to meet the specific needs of each pupil. We follow the Equals curriculum and pupils’ progress is assessed against their own starting points. (Our pupils do not sit any formal examinations). Subjects are not taught discretely, unlike many schools. Our focus is on preparing pupils for adult life, to be part of the wider community (if they are able) and to be as independent as they can possibly be.

Curriculum

Our Pathways have been created to suit the needs of our learners. Our Pathways are as follows,

  • Early Years Foundation Stage
  • Informal Pathway
  • Semi-formal Pathway
  • PMLD Pathway

(Further details are provided in the ‘Curriculum’ section on the website.)

Our aims

  • For our pupils to become as independent as they can possibly be
  • To foster self-esteem and confidence and for all of our pupils to fulfil their potential
  • For pupils to be an active and valued member of their school community and the wider world.
  • To provide a safe and nurturing environment where pupils can thrive
  • To ensure all pupils are ‘listened to’ and there are opportunities to express their wishes and make meaningful choices.
  • To fully prepare pupils for a successful transition to adulthood.
  • To develop positive relationships with families and work together to ensure the best possible outcomes both now and in the future.

If you think your child meets the identified criteria and you would like to visit our school, please contact the admin team on admin@deebanks.cheshire.sch.uk or telephone 01244 667800

Kind Regards

Judith McGuinness
