Welcome to The Bishop's Stortford High School
Welcome to our Sixth FormJoining TBSHS Sixth Form means becoming part of a supportive, empowering, dynamic, and stimulating environment. We encourage you to be a role model — driven, innovative, inventive, adaptable, hardworking, versatile, and compassionate. We want you to embody the Black and Gold spirit.Being Black and Gold means fully engaging with the incredible opportunities available to our Year 12, from our outdoor adventure trip to a wide range of weekly enrichment activities in sports, performing arts, music, debate and more. Our students consistently reach the finals of national tournaments in football, debating, and public speaking. Sixth Formers also experience international trips to destinations such as Switzerland, France, Germany, Austria, South Africa and Sri Lanka, with some performing in esteemed venues, debating at the prestigious Oxford and Cambridge unions, or hearing from high-profile speakers like double Olympic medallist from Paris 2024.Being Black and Gold means honouring our rich traditions while embracing a forward-thinking, creative, and energetic approach. Our Sixth Form students lead by example for the younger pupils, taking on key leadership roles both within the school and in the broader community.“Sixth formers are excellent role models, running extra-curricular clubs and organising school events.” — Ofsted 2023Your post-16 education is a thrilling period of exploration, dedication, and forging friendships. It’s a time to chart your future path, and in our Sixth Form, you will cultivate the independence, adaptability, and perseverance, along with the mental flexibility and strength of character essential to thrive in an ever-evolving world.Being Black and Gold means being encouraged and pushed every day by enthusiastic, knowledgeable staff who are committed to your success. It also requires embracing a strong work ethic to achieve the highest academic results.“Sixth form students regularly secure the top grades at A level.” — Ofsted 2023We offer exceptional, personalised post-18 support and guidance. In 2024, 64% of our students progressed to higher education, with 38% of them securing places at Russell Group universities, including two in medicine and four at Oxbridge. An increasing number of students are pursuing highly sought-after apprenticeships, and I am immensely proud that this year 12% of students secured positions with organisations including the Police, BBC Broadcasting and Media Systems Engineering, Pell Frischmann, BlackRock Investment, GSK, British Airways, and St. James’s Place Wealth Management, among others. Our new school building and Sixth Form Centre are stunning; cutting edge facilities for the present and the future. But it is our values that are lived out daily in our classrooms, sports fields, debating halls, music rooms and the wider community that make us Black and Gold. I hope to see many of you here at our Open Evening and Sixth Form Induction in the summer to see it for yourselves.George MunroAssistant Headteacher, Head of Sixth Form
