Welcome Message

King James’s Sixth Form is a vibrant, thriving community of valued individuals.  We pride ourselves on maintaining our heritage and strong links with the wider King James’s School and local community, while developing a unique Sixth Form experience, which emphasises support and ambition.

Every student is challenged and supported through high quality teaching, bespoke learning and tailored advice.  We believe that our close Sixth Form community, emphasis on developing independent study skills and class sizes facilitate this individual support.

A King James’s Sixth Form student should have the opportunity to leave school with the intellectual currency to enable them to become fully engaged citizens, capable of fulfilling their potential.

Our high specification Sixth Form Centre, was built to help develop even further our successful and high achieving Post-16 offer.

Completed in August 2019, our state of the art building both matches, and helps to deliver, our high aspirations and ambitions for every Sixth Form student, creating a space for all students to enjoy and flourish. A fantastic development for the school and local community.

King James´s School is passionate about providing as many opportunities as possible for our students. Sixth Form students take part in cultural visits and research work across all curriculum disciplines, as well as sporting activities and competitive events.

Work experience and volunteering opportunities

Extended Project Qualifications (EPQs)

pieces of coursework or dissertations that are completed by the student independently. The title of the work, its research, planning, production and evaluation must be completed by the student with minimal guidance from a tutor. EPQ begins towards the end of Year 12, and is completed in Year 13.

Trips and Visits

There is a range of visits throughout the school year and during holidays. Residentials include skiing in the Alps, and art and photography visits to a variety of locations. Other trips include theatre and cinema visits, and the opportunity to watch sporting events.

Music

Musicians are well catered for with a wide range of vocal and instrumental groups as well as extensive music technology provision. Opportunities are also arranged to visit events out of school, as observers as well as participants. Performances and tours are organised on a regular basis. Artists have an outstanding variety of opportunities within the Sixth Form. Local drawing trips, visits to London galleries and trips abroad all feed into high-quality work that is celebrated at our spring and summer art exhibitions.

Performing Arts

Actors perform to a very high standard in a variety of performances, including school productions such as Blood Brothers and Chicago, house drama competitions and the expressive arts evening. Theatre visits are organised throughout the year for students to enjoy.
