Aasmita took A Levels in Chemistry, Biology, Geography and Psychology. She then went on to study Medicine at Kings College, London. We asked her if she felt that her time at CTK had helped her get to where she is today – “Absolutely, CTK were very supportive when it came to applying for Medicine. They helped proof read personal statements, set up practice UKCAT tests, practice interviews etc. “My advice for others looking to go to university is to do your research into what criteria’s universities look for (grades, admission tests, interviews etc) so you know in advance what you need and what to expect when you do actually apply. Many people aren’t aware and sometimes find out too late which is a shame. Check UCAS or university websites. Open days are useful to see the university itself. Talk to other students studying at the university and see what their experiences have been like and any advice they could offer to you. Extra-curricular activities, whether this is volunteering, part time work or even playing sports try and get involved in stuff outside of college so you have more to talk about on your personal statement. This is useful not just for Medicine but any course as most skills are transferrable (teamwork, leadership, problem solving etc).”

Alejandro studied his A levels in English, IT, Spanish and Maths at Christ the King College. “Christ the King College was a fun and great place to set you up for life. A particularly fond memory I have of my time there was getting involved in representing the college on Open Days and all the good memories I made with my friends.” Alejandro said “I loved my Spanish course because I had a chance to study more about my native language and my culture and also we had a trip to Andalucia which I will never forget.” “College helped my to realise that I wanted to do take a more creative direction with my career. I combined my second year of CTK with a foundation course at the University of the Arts,” he said. “I was quite lucky as the Principal of Christ the King in 2005/6 allowed me to do this. I went to UAL two days a week whilst continuing my A-Levels, which was the best thing for me as it got me into the career I wanted.” After his time at Christ the King, Alejandro continued with his Bachelor’s degree, graduating with a 2:1, and is now working as a Freelance Graduate Designer and Consultant for FE colleges in London.

Amy took A Levels in History, English Literature, and Psychology. She went on to study at Queen’s University Belfast and is currently “at uni again, doing a course in geography which I love!” She told us that he favourite elements of her college days were “canteen chats and lunch on the fields”, and “end of year lessons introducing new topics.” “I loved my courses because they opened a lot of avenues for me, and got me to think critically about the world around me. It instilled a love of analysis and reading in me that continues today.” She continued, “My fondest memory is the support I received from staff when I was having trouble at home. They were all very supportive and helped me where they could (Thank you Mr Acton, Mr McClean and Ms Judd!)
