Welcome to Xaverian College

Xaverian has been serving the people of Greater Manchester for nearly 160 years, and we remain an outstanding Catholic college for the community.Students and staff from all backgrounds are welcome to join our community of learning, faith and service. During my time at the College I have seen time and again the fantastic endeavours of our students, and how the College can transform the lives of young people in our care, as we guide and support them to develop their talents and reach their full potential, both here at Xaverian and when they progress from us.Like many of our staff I have a long affiliation with the College, mainly due to the unique character and environment here at Xaverian, which I continue to enjoy now, as Principal. In my case this has spanned over 50 years as a student, teacher and now as Principal. Each year, our students tell us how much they enjoy studying with us, and I am sure you will find the College just as welcoming, challenging, supportive and distinctive as previous generations. I look forward to meeting you on Open Days and Taster Days, where you can get a sense of what Xaverian offers for yourself. Good luck with your continued studies.Tony Knowles,Principal

University

A Levels in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. “I found Physics the hardest of my subjects but the most rewarding. I particularly enjoyed the Applied Mathematics element of the course. All the work we did was aimed at improving our ability to answer questions in final exams and the teachers supported us by giving us structured tasks and how-to videos to improve our knowledge.”

University

A Levels in Graphic Design, Law and Textiles. “I chose to study at Xaverian because it offered lots of options at A Level and it was the perfect stepping-stone to university. In terms of my arts courses, I chose textiles as it looked really interesting was more than just creating fashion, and graphics as it covered both digital and hand drawn art which suited my creative style. I particularly enjoyed the graphics course as we had the freedom to use mixed mediums as part of the project briefs, and I could use the skills I had learned in textiles to create physical pieces to use in my graphics’ designs. I found studying law alongside arts subjects was a nice balance and it gave me a lot of confidence as you have to speak in public.”

Apprenticeship

BTEC in Business. “The course has given me a fascinating insight into business, and I’ve loved that it involves so many different skills, such as being creative, strategic and innovative etc. Every lesson was different, and I was constantly learning new topics and their application in the real world. My teachers have been so supportive, both academically and personally which has really made all the difference when completing my studies.”
