Former Agriculture student Molly Cavell, is shortlisted in the category Young Business of the Year, beating around 180 entries across the awarding categories. 20 year old Molly, who is from South Duffield near Selby, studied for two years completing a Level 3 in Agriculture in June 2019. She was completely new to the industry, not coming from a farming background. Her passion for working with sheep and wanting to carve her own way in the industry led her to choose a course with Bishop Burton College. Speaking about her time studying with us, Molly said “I was nervous about it because I knew nothing about farming, but I have been gradually introduced to everything. It has been really great.” Molly, who one day dreams of becoming a shepherdess, juggled her studies with volunteering, taking on additional duties around lambing time which enabled her to gain lots of practical experience during her time at the College. Once she left college, Molly decided to make use of the fields around her house, taking in orphan lambs from across the region. This gave her the idea of creating a business and so Yorkshire Lamb Orphanage was born. She hopes to expand and develop her business and has lots of exciting ideas including opening up to the public offering pizza nights, and working with those who have mental health issues that can use the animals as part of their therapy towards recovery.
