Welcome to Varndean College

Situated on a beautiful hilltop location with stunning views of Brighton, Varndean Sixth Form College is a highly successful and unique sixth form college offering exceptional education. With an outstanding academic track record, students become academically accomplished and flourish as part of a welcoming, inspirational and close-knit family. We ignite passion for learning, fostering curiosity and confidence, while empowering students to thrive, both academically and personally. The College offers over 30 traditional A Levels, a diverse range of Advanced Level Vocational Courses, the prestigious and internationally recognised International Baccalaureate Diploma, as well as a wide range Foundation Level courses. With approx 2000 students aged 16-19 years, Varndean Sixth Form College provides a real community ethos with outstanding support, where students thrive, and where we put student happiness at the heart of everything we do. We are in the top 10% of UK schools and sixth-form colleges for value-added, meaning the students who study here achieve much higher than expected of them based on the GCSE grades they arrive with. A large percentage of our students progress on to university each year, with many studying at top Russell Group universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. Recent HESA (Higher Education Statistics Agency) statistics show that 94.8% of our students studying at Russell Group universities graduated with a First or Upper Second Class honours degree, higher than those students from the independent sector.

Enrichment Activities

Show all activities
The Enrichment programme at Varndean College is called ‘Varndean Values - Enrichment’. ‘Varndean Values - Enrichment’ offers a bespoke extra-curricular experience for every student. Enrichments are categorised via the following headings to help you focus on your individual pathway. Along with the above selection of enrichments students can launch their own societies and groups. All students are invited to set up their own enrichment after October Half Term. Students who are interested in this write a proposal and submit this for authorisation. Student Enrichment Leads to develop organisation, communication and leadership skills.

Board Games Club.

This is a great opportunity to come along, unwind, 'Connect 4' with some new friends and get 'Cluedo'-d up on the latest board game crazes.

College Climate & Environment Action Group

Help to plan how the College will reduce its environmental footprint, implement its environmental policy and eco-code. We are also following the Climate Action Road Map which links to the Government’s zero emissions targets. We have a staff and student group who meet regularly to coordinate and initiate projects such as creating and managing the college nature reserve, improving our campus environment and raising awareness about environmental issues.

EmbRACE and Culture

This student led group is for people from minority groups, where minority voices can be heard without needing to focus on questions from a majority point of view. Everyone is welcome to join.
