Welcome to The Henslow and Evolution School

Welcome to The Henslow SchoolThe Evolution and Henslow School is a New Reflexions independent, day, Primary and Secondary school for young people with social, emotional and mental health challenges, as well as behavioural difficulties. Whilst our parent company, New Reflexions, provides an integrated service of care, education and therapy, the Evolution and Henslow School also accepts students from other care companies, foster placements and from Local Authority referrals. The school offers students a nurturing environment in which to grow, learn, develop and have fun. All of our staff are trained in Reflective Therapeutic Intervention to ensure a consistent approach to supporting positive behaviour and this compliments a structured provision along with our high expectations and clear boundaries. The school offers a therapeutic approach which is trauma informed. This means that we recognise that trauma is principally a sensory experience for our young people, stemming from frightening experiences and that we need to help them to restore a sense of personal safety, in order that they can self-regulate and develop healthy relationships from which to grow. We work closely with our clinical team to reflect on our practice and seek strategies that support our vulnerable learners. At the secondary provision, we offer individually tailored educational programmes to meet each young person’s needs, combining academic study and accreditation; vocational learning; personal skills and outdoor education to suit each student. Our ethos places the child at the heart of all planning and decision making in order that we can truly build an educational experience that suits them and their starting point. We seek that spark of interest in each young person, which if nurtured and developed, may allow the young person to build the self-esteem to embrace a broad and balanced curriculum for their future. If you are looking for information for a primary age child, please return to the home page and select the Evolution School pages. If you are seeking a placement for a child with learning or physical disabilities, please select The Longridge School, also on the home page, or The Fitzroy Academy on 01939 210040.Please do get in touch if you have any queries or would like to find out more.

Enrichment Activities

Show all activities
Students participate in both large and small group activities, promoting teamwork and social interaction. They are involved in face-to-face exchanges of thoughts, ideas, feelings and emotions. This includes exploring both verbal and non-verbal elements of personal interaction. We complete work and activities to support the development of a student’s growth mind-set, metacognition and executive functioning, allowing them to become aware of their own identity and personal opinions about the wider world and themselves as individuals
