Welcome to Richard Rose Central Academy

Our Sixth Form has a special place at the heart of Carlisle, offering unique opportunities and lifelong memories that will help you achieve your goals. We combine traditional academic values with modern state of the art facilities to enable our young adults to succeed. We are proud that we are a part of the United Learning Academy Trust – we have access to international opportunities whilst being able to focus on our close-knit Sixth Form family. We know and care about each and every one of our Sixth Formers and pride ourselves on our steady growth to maintain this approach to pastoral care. We have the optimum numbers to offer a broad range of academic opportunities and provide a high standard of education. The Sixth Form is, nevertheless, small enough numerically for every student to be known, respected and supported as an individual. All new students who have not been part of the Central and Morton family already are quickly integrated into the school community and make strong, lasting friendships.Life here is about more than just academic success. There are also some exciting opportunities here to take part in; a broad range of extra-curricular activities which can extend cultural, linguistic and musical interests. We look forward to welcoming you to the Sixth Form next September, and to working with you over the next two years.

Bethanie Robinson

September 2018

Employed

Our Alumnus of the month is Bethanie Robinson, who left Central Academy in 2020. Since leaving Central Academy, Bethanie completed a medical degree (MBChB), which took five years to complete. When at school, Bethanie decided she wanted to complete a degree and further education in psychology, but through some inspiration from her psychology teacher, she started looking into careers in psychiatry. In order to become a psychiatrist (a doctor specialising in mental illness), Bethanie first had to complete a medical degree and gain experience in the physical illnesses. After achieving two A*s and an A in Psychology, Biology and Chemistry, Bethanie was accepted onto a medical degree at the University of Sunderland.

Enrichment Activities

Show all activities
Sixth Formers are role models for the rest of the school. Our focus is on developing well - rounded individuals as well as achieving academic results, so we encourage all our students to take part in a range of activities which helps them grow into confident, independent young adults. We have a volunteering programme that allows all our students to develop the skills required to meet their career needs.

Prefects / Leadership
All Sixth Form students are invited to apply for the positions of Head Students. There are 3 Head Students, one for each of the houses. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop leadership and other essential skills. Leaders are given significant responsibility within the school and only those with initiative, commitment and creativity need apply!
Volunteering Opportunities
In-Class Support - As we are a 11 - 18 school, we are very lucky to have a site that enables Sixth Formers to offer in class support to teachers. Furthermore, we also run a reading support scheme, whereby Sixth Formers help develop the reading skills of Year 7 transition students.
Extended Project Qualification
As well as taking your subjects, Sixth Formers can opt for the Extended Project Qualification. This is a guided learning qualification that is highly regarded by universities. Students complete a 5000-word project on a topic of their own choice.
