Welcome to Churston Ferrers Grammar School Academy
Welcome to Churston Ferrers Grammar School Sixth Form.
Starting Sixth Form is an exciting and challenging stage in your education as you are able to choose the subjects you wish to study and you will begin to consider the possible career path you will follow. As you potentially prepare for university or the world of work your choice of subjects is therefore important and we are willing to help and advise you in making this important decision.
A key aim is to ensure you achieve the best possible A Level grades. This begins with dedicated support to help with the transition from GCSE to A Levels and your teachers will be working with you to develop and encourage your aspirations and achieving your potential. We also place great importance on preparing you for the future, advising you on appropriate work experience, providing expert career guidance and making sure you are informed about your Post 18 Options. We have a thriving ‘Alumni Network’ which provides inspiration and advice for all of our students.
There is a long-standing reputation for strong pastoral support at Churston as A Levels can be challenging and we want you to have a supportive and relaxing environment to study in. Our dedicated Sixth Form team are experienced in offering you advice and guidance through these important two years.
The nature of post 16 studies means that in the Sixth Form you will be treated as young adults and given greater responsibility. You have your own separate Sixth Form building (completed in 2012), you can wear your own clothes and have the opportunity to manage your own time due to the free lessons you will have.
However, as a Grammar School, there is the expectation that students work hard and teachers will do all they can to encourage and support you in this. This includes encouraging aspirational students in their pursuit of places at Russell Group Universities and other high-ranking institutions in the US and Europe. The Sixth Form has a natural atmosphere of commitment to study, a sense of community, considerate behaviour and inclusion.
Finally, Churston’s Sixth Form is unique in the area because:
- It is truly co-educational with an average of 300 students in total.
- The Sixth Form is academic in nature as we specialise in 25 different A Levels, together with the Extended Project.
- The school is committed to providing students with the resources they need to achieve and therefore all students are provided with a Chromebook for the duration of their studies and all core textbooks.
Each year, the majority of our year 11 students transfer to our Sixth Form along with between 50-60 students from a variety of other schools and countries. We hope that you will choose our Sixth Form too and one day remember your time in the Sixth Form as a very enjoyable experience and one in which you achieved the success you were hoping for.

Enrichment Activities
Show all activitiesThe Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is an internationally recognised scheme providing accreditation for a self-directed programme, working with schools and other organisations across the UK. It gives opportunities to discover new interests and talents and for a participant to develop essential skills for life and work. It is also a well recognised mark of achievement, respected by employers and universities. HRH Prince Philip himself described it as a ‘do it yourself toolkit for life’.
Enrichment trips have long been a highly anticipated and memorable part of life at Churston. From subject specific day trips to cultural visits to European cities and adventurous overseas expeditions, we recognise the huge value that the experience of a school trip can bring. Self development through new experiences and challenges underpins the formation of lifelong memories.
The tutor curriculum, careers education and year 12 work experience all support our students to develop as individuals and prepare for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
