Welcome to Sandringham School

We have close to 600 students in our Sixth Form. The Sixth Form at Sandringham is a rich and vibrant community of students and teachers who are committed to achieving excellence in everything they do. It is a time of opportunities and experiences; academic, social and cultural. We are confident that can support students to achieve excellent results so that they can pursue the next best step for them, whether it is moving on to university, apprenticeships or work.

Sandringham Sixth Form is open to any student who reaches our entrance criteria regardless of where they live or which school they have attended. Sixth Form students have full access to a wide range of courses through our own curriculum and the long-established BeauSandVer (BSV) Education Trust with Beaumont and Verulam schools. We offer a wide range of A level courses together with some other Level 3 vocational subjects. Life in the Sixth Form is busy and focused, but there are multiple opportunities to extend skills and experiences both in lessons and outside. There are also many opportunities for fun!

Whether you are wishing to pursue a career in medicine, law or architecture, want to be an actor or artist, or wish to pursue sport and science, we have the expertise, facilities and knowledge to help you. We will also encourage you to get fully involved in the life of the school, through our excellent Arts and Sports faculties, by taking on a key leadership positions or taking part in our expeditions and trips.

Sixth Form students play a unique and valuable role in the school, contributing actively to the wider life of the school community. They arrange and run events with younger students, demonstrating tremendous leadership and motivation. The Head Students, Senior Executive Committee, Senior Prefects, Prefects and various House and Sports Captains play a particularly key role in school life and competition is fierce for these positions of responsibility.

You should be able to find out a lot of information about the Sixth Form and how to apply for a place through the following sections and we look forward to meeting you at our admissions events in the near future.

Enrichment Activities

Show all activities
All subjects encourage subject enrichment to enable students to develop their passion for their chosen areas. This can include extra reading recommendations, journals, lectures, Moocs, trips and visits. Outside of their studies, Sixth Form students enjoy substantial freedom and opportunities to participate in many extra-curricular activities.

Volunteering

Many of our students volunteer, which is a great way to learn new skills, develop your confidence, meet more people and have a rewarding experience. In Year 12, they can sign up for one of over 20 different weekly voluntary placements with Sandringham School or primary schools in the trust, and hold the responsibility of being an ambassador, assistant, buddy or mentor. Students are also welcome to volunteer for other organisations with some seeking out their own placement if they wish and we can schedule this in their study sessions during school time if it is appropriate.

Work Experience

We encourage students to participate in work experience to gain transferable skills and to gain experience if they are considering a particular vocation. Year 12 has an annual week of work experience and they are offered other opportunities frequently – such as access days, virtual workshops and talks – to learn about a variety of careers.

Trips

Every other year, there is a Sixth Form expedition. Previous trips have travelled to Costa Rica, Borneo and China and we will be taking a trip to Vietnam and Cambodia in February 2023. There are many other exciting curriculum based trips, with recent visits including San Francisco for computer science, Iceland for geography and CERN for STEM students.
