Welcome to Bullers Wood School

Headteacher’s WelcomeBullers Wood School is a comprehensive girls’ school with a mixed Sixth Form providing an outstanding, exciting and holistic education based on traditional values and a warm friendly ethos which are at the core of all that we do. Parallel to this is the hard work of our students and staff, supported by parents and carers. Our students’ achievements over many years are a testament to this – demonstrated in their impressive academic results, their many and varied successes in extra-curricular fields and their personal qualities.A ‘can-do’ culture pervades the school and inspires the whole community. Students are offered rich opportunities within and beyond the academic curriculum to find their niche, experience success and develop self-confidence. We have an excellent pastoral care system, which ensures that each student is happy, cared for and known by staff, allowing them to develop into well-rounded young women and men. This is underpinned by a strong emphasis on self-discipline, mutual respect, tolerance and celebration of diversity. Our teachers have a passion for their subjects and are able to convey their knowledge and enthusiasm. We have an unremitting focus on learning and a genuine conviction that each child can both enjoy success and strive for excellence. Our students benefit from a range of visits in this country and further afield which provide experiences which enhance and extend their studies. The theatres, museums and galleries of London provide numerous prospects for students to enrich classroom based learning. Other opportunities include skiing in California, History and Politics study trips to Washington, Geography Field Trips to Iceland as well as cultural and language trips to Spain, France, Germany and Italy. The more adventurous travel further afield on World Challenge expeditions to places such as China and Madagascar where they undertake community and conservation based projects.Girls join the School in Year 7, and the vast majority stay on until Sixth Form where students from other schools also join us; many progress to university including Oxbridge and Russell Group. We were graded ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in 2011 and the School has gone from strength to strength in many ways since then.In recent years at GCSE over 80% of students achieved five or more 9-4 grades (including English and Mathematics), with significant numbers gaining the very highest grades. Results at A level have been equally enviable. In recent years, large numbers of all A-levels taken were passed at grades A*, A and B, placing us higher than many other schools. Our value-added figures according to government measures are excellent. Overall, at GCSE and A Level, Bullers Wood is one of the highest achieving schools locally and nationally.Bullers Wood School is an exciting place to work and to learn. I am very proud to lead a team of highly professional, committed staff, many of whom have chosen Bullers Wood for their own daughters and sons. We look forward to you visiting us to see for yourselves what our school has to offer.Simon HardwickHeadteacher
