Welcome to Highcliffe School

Our Vision: We value the power of education to change lives.

Highcliffe Sixth encourages all of its students to aspire to the highest levels of achievement and enables them to prepare for adult life in a carefully supported environment. Highcliffe Sixth attracts many students from Highcliffe School and other local schools and even further afield. In 2016 Ofsted stated that ‘The Sixth Form is a strength of the school'; this is a tribute to the excellent work undertaken by both students and staff.

A high number of students progress onto the prestigious Russell Group universities alongside a number of students successfully securing Degree Apprenticeships and Higher Apprenticeships with top local and national companies. We currently offer students a choice of 32 A Levels and Level 3 BTEC/Cambridge Technical courses. This allows us to personalise our curriculum for the needs and aspirations of each individual student.

Highcliffe Sixth Form students have an outstanding choice of many enrichment activities to get involved with, including: The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, National Theatre Connexions, National Citizenship Service, Sports and water sports activities and international visits to Europe such as Iceland, New York, Nepal and Tanzania – there are many more opportunities for students to enjoy and build their skills outside of the classroom.

We have excellent personalised pastoral support. Sixth Form students have their own dedicated team of pastoral support staff who provide guidance for all students in the Sixth Form. Each student belongs to a mixed Year 12 and 13 tutor group made up of approximately 20-25 students. Tutors work individually with students to support their learning and monitor their progress by having regular one to one or small group ‘university style’ tutorials.  Each year group has a dedicated Head of Year who supports their journey over the two years.

Students in the Sixth Form have access to superb facilities. These include well-equipped science labs, Sixth Form study centre and café, music recording studio, specialist Art, Design and Technology facilities and high tech equipment. In addition to all this, the Sixth Form has its own dedicated part of the school building, in the Shepherd building.

We do all we can to bring out the very best in every student.

Thank you for your interest in Highcliffe Sixth Form and please do not hesitate to contact us if you require further information.

I chose computer science after developing my interest in programming during my GCSE computing lessons. I felt very inspired by my teachers and knew that it was something I'd like to pursue further. After completing GCSE and A Level computing courses, I moved onto study the same at university. I made lots of friends there and had an excellent time. University helped me develop my interests, skills, and grow as a person. I push myself to explore and try new things, something that would have terrified me prior to university. But I will still never forget the friendships I made during my time at Highcliffe. I still talk to many of those people daily. My current role involves working on building solutions for the Cisco Webex cloud that help people communicate and collaborate across the world, with features such as Hot Desking and Whiteboarding.

I am currently at Garmin, working as an EMEA Social Media Manager. I work across all product releases ranging from sports, wellness to marine and more! I work with influencers, develop social media campaigns to creating launch events. It's an exciting, fast paced role and I absolutely love working with teams across the globe on new releases. Personal fitness has become a massive goal during lockdown so it has been fantastic to work on marketing campaigns to help consumers on their fitness journeys.

I left Highcliffe in 2010. From there I did a degree at Warwick University. I was arts editor of our paper, did over 50 plays, took a couple of those shows to Edinburgh and London, and generally tired myself out. After university, I earned a place at Columbia Journalism School in New York. New York taught me so much about the lives and experiences of people wildly different from me, and covering culture and the cultures that make it has been the main thrust of my journalistic career.
