Welcome to St Wilfrid's Church of England Academy

St Wilfrid’s Sixth Form in Blackburn is a high-achieving college with a variety of A-Level and BTEC courses on offer. It is a place where our students are stretched and challenged to realise success, but in a caring and nurturing environment. Our high-quality teaching and pastoral support, together with our inspiring Christian values, have built a community where the well-being and attainment of each student is central. We see our Sixth Form students as leaders within the Academy, bringing both responsibility and the opportunity to grow. Whatever your skills and abilities, there is an opportunity waiting here for you, to make a difference to Academy life and ultimately, to thrive. 1. Academic ExcellenceOur outstanding results stem from an approach to learning that provides exceptional support for each of our students. We will nurture your aspirations, stretching, challenging and equipping you to succeed. 2. Outstanding ResultsIn 2022 37% of our students achieved A-A* and 67% of our students achieved A*-B grades, both of which are above the national average. This success derives from our focus on developing independent study skills as well as building a strong work ethic in our students to increase their desire to learn. 3. Independent StudyOutside of their lessons, Sixth Form students continue with their learning journey through independent study. Independence is crucial for examination success and we have a structured Year 12 Induction Programme which will help them build the skills and knowledge they need to navigate the Sixth Form journey. They also have access to dedicated Independent Study page where they can access information and resources from home and while in Sixth Form. ‍4. Challenge & InspirationSt Wilfrid’s staff have high expectations of all students and encourage them to seek out academic challenge above and beyond the curriculum. We expect students to be organised, punctual and enthusiastic to learn. With access to a range of academic tools such as a reference library, academic periodicals and lectures, students are well-equipped to chase their aspirations and succeed. 5. Personalised SupportSmaller class sizes ensure that teachers can develop strong working relationships with students, who are given the encouragement and freedom to develop their academic skills and take ownership of their learning. Teachers provide high quality study support both inside and outside of the classroom to make sure that each learner achieves their potential. 6. Student Wellbeing‍The wellbeing of our students is very important to us and our dedicated Student Welfare Officer will help and support your son/daughter with their mental health and wellbeing needs. All students have access to wellbeing support throughout their time in Sixth Form.

My experience at Sixth Form was incredible! The staff pushed me to try new things and encouraged me every step of the way. Being cast in the production really boosted my confidence and has helped launch my career in acting.

St Wilfrid’s is such a supportive family in a community setting. I am now pursuing my dream career and would not be where I am today without the hard work and constant support of the teachers there.
