Welcome Message

Caldew has a thriving Sixth Form of 150 students, studying around 30 A Level and BTEC Level 3 Courses.

We have high expectations of our students just as their expectations of Caldew School will be. Whether they are with us for one or two years, have been here since Year 7, or are new to the school we want the Sixth Form to be a partnership between students, parents and teachers which leads to continuing development and success for every individual.

In some ways life in the Sixth Form is different from what is experienced in compulsory education between 11 and 16. There is more choice about what a student can study and there is more scope to pursue wider interests. In many subjects students are also taught in smaller groups and this allows them to develop a strong working relationship with their teachers. There is much more responsibility and autonomy given to students. Teachers will expect all students to be able to work more independently and they will expect them to show a real interest in their studies through undertaking wider reading and research. As students develop their understanding, demands will increase with everyone sharing the common goal of every student reaching their potential in their studies.
