GROW ASPIRE ACHIEVE
Successful
Teaching always supports students to work more sophisticatedly with challenging subject knowledge and prepares students for achieving high standards in exams, assessment and coursework. We offer dedicated work spaces to ensure students are focused on their studies and meeting their own high expectations. We have a track record for ensuring that students are successful moving onto their next destination. Whether their pathway is university, apprenticeship or employment we will support students to their success.
Supportive and Inclusive
With an excellent pastoral system, we quickly get to know and care for all students. Students are universally positive about the support they receive in Sixth Form and are listened to by all staff. Students have opportunities to embrace a range of enrichment and volunteering activities to develop them as they transition into young adults. We also have financial, mental health and career support available.
Local and Welcoming
On the doorstep for Consett and the surrounding areas, we ensure that Sixth Form is a close-knit community where every student is valued. We welcome students from other schools, where they quickly settle into our culture that supports students to grow, aspire and achieve.
Raising Aspirations
We believe in supporting all students to achieve and will never place a ceiling on their ambition. Next step and career advice is integral to our student curriculum, and we encourage all students to consider university or degree level apprenticeships.
Opportunities
Throughout your time at CA6 you will have opportunities to volunteer and ‘give back’ to school and local communities. These opportunities range from peer or academic mentoring; discrimination ambassadors or supporting Beyond 25 activities. Activities to develop your leadership skills are also available such as delivering assemblies, leading school council or presenting for an Industrial Gold Cadets Award.
Transition
Whether you have been at Consett Academy since Year 7, or choose to join us at Year 12, we will ensure that you have a smooth transition into your new Sixth Form experience. We are a community that supports, guides and advises all our students and will champion you through your next phase of studies. We will also ensure that you are ready to transition to university, apprenticeship or employment with our careers curriculum, experiences and support.
Join us and see the difference of a Sixth Form experience. Together we will work towards your goals, whatever that may be. We can’t wait to see where you will go!

Employed
Although George could not see himself going down the route of university he continued his A Level studies in order to have a baseline for his future. After leaving Consett Academy he worked for a year but dreamt of moving away and gaining independence. Later that same year he emailed the Gordon Ramsey Group asking if they had any vacancies, within a week he received a phone call offering him a space in any Ramsey restaurant in Britain. Almost two years later George is progressing through Ramsay's three Michelin star kitchens, cooking with the most spectacular ingredients and the most elite chefs. "Working here has opened so many opportunities, allowing me to work at other restaurants across London I dreamt of visiting as a child. The biggest lesson this chapter of my life has taught me, is to take the chance and grab every opportunity that is given, put a foot in every door that is open and never say never. "
