Lauren Gilhom

September 2018

University

Lauren Gilhom, A-level Art & Design/Photography class of 2020, has been awarded the prestigious Michael Ormerod Photography Travel Award. Lauren is currently studying Photography at Newcastle University and is the first ever Level 4 student to win the award. Lauren pitched her photo-shoot proposal to the panel of judges, including all the financial and logistics involved, and created the artwork during Summer 2021 in Scotland. We are all very proud of Lauren on her achievement and look forward to seeing the work in person in her exhibition at Mandela Gallery, Newcastle University.

Lisa

September 2021

Apprenticeship

Upon leaving Sixth Form, Lisa joined South Shields Marine School (who continue to support our KEVI Inspires events) destined for a career at sea. At college Lisa studied a range of theory, including celestial navigation along with more practical elements. Lisa passed her exams at South Shields Marine College and was lucky enough to have three Cadetship offers – all from cruise companies.

Enrichment Activities

Show all activities
In an ever competitive University and employment market it is imperative that our Sixth Form students have the edge on their competitors. They should have plenty to say about how they have developed themselves outside of the classroom when it comes to applying to universities and employers. As a student in Sixth Form you will be encouraged to take advantage of a range of opportunities that enhance your studies and Sixth Form experience. We have developed an interesting, varied and worthwhile enrichment programme that we expect all students to take part in.

Wednesday Afternoon Enrichment

On Wednesday afternoons students have time built into the timetable to take part in a range of workshops and talks. This ranges from talks from industry professionals to driver awareness, library visits to gap year presentations. Please keep an eye on this timetable to see what opportunities are available throughout the year.

Extra Curricular

Many of our Sixth Form students take the lead on extra-curricular clubs across the school. Furthermore, a range of extra-curricular opportunities are available to students both during school day and after school hours. Below are a number of opportunities that are available to our students.

Reading Ambassador Programme

Students in Year 12 have the opportunity to sign up to the Reading Ambassador programme. This programme pairs our Year 12 students with students in Year 9 so that they can develop their fluency when reading a range of texts.
