Welcome to The Boston Grammar School

Thank you for considering Boston Grammar School as your post-16 destination of choice. We can provide you with an exceptional education and the very highest outcomes, all within our historic setting. Above all, we nurture a passion for learning, while also ensuring it is enjoyable, fulfilling, enriching and formative. The school has a long history of promoting outstanding achievement within a supportive environment. We help students to learn and develop new skills and knowledge, whilst also promoting the essential character traits which will allow them to become successful citizens of the future, making a real contribution to their communities. Boston Grammar School offers a competitively broad curriculum, resulting in a personalised, tailored learning experience for our students. I have been excited to see all of our Sixth Form teachers leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that our curriculum is rigorous, challenging and engaging in equal measure. High standards are expected of the work students produce, in our pursuit of academic excellence. Sixth Form studies are largely based around A-level courses, along with an expanding complementary offering of BTEC courses, such as in Science and PE. Sixth Form students have access to purpose built accommodation in the form of the school’s recently improved Sixth Form Centre, where they may access computers and other learning resources. Students also have access to Wi-Fi in this area, allowing them to bring their own device to use in school. The Sixth Form Centre provides our students with high quality teaching and study spaces, including two large private study rooms, a silent study space and four additional classrooms. In addition to academic studies, Sixth Form students are encouraged to engage in other activities which enrich their experience at Boston Grammar School. These include: sport; extra-curricular opportunities, clubs and societies; work experience, work shadowing and volunteering; mentorship and support for younger students; additional qualifications, such as the Extended Project Qualification; and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Students have the opportunity to apply for a number of leadership positions, where they can develop their own personal skills as well as having a positive impact upon school life. All students engage in a tutorial study programme which focuses on wellbeing, enrichment and life skills. In addition, students are encouraged to work towards the Sixth Form 50 award, which sets 50 challenges in areas as diverse as Achievement, Adventure, Outreach and Culture. The Sixth Form staff team work hard to ensure that all students are supported throughout their Sixth Form experience. We all believe that students achieve their best when they are happy and can access support whenever it is needed. We believe that this personal, student-centred approach is what makes our Sixth Form stand out. I am confident that our school provides a superb environment in which young men and women can learn, develop and flourish. It has the perfect mix of historic tradition and modern outlook, helping our students to hold strong social values alongside high personal aspirations. We provide outstanding levels of care and support to ensure all students can unlock their potential and go on to excel in the world beyond Boston Grammar School. I hope I will be able to welcome you to our Sixth Form. Steven Barker Head of Sixth Form

We believe that learning opportunities in the Sixth Form should be broader than just the academic courses that students choose to take. Preparing students for life beyond school is something we take very seriously. We encourage our students to participate in enrichment activities timetabled lessons.
