Enrichment Activities

Show all activities
Super-curricular leadership involves D6 students leading their own extra-curricular clubs or activities developing leadership and other valuable skills which can enhance UCAS and post 18 applications.

Personal Development Awards
The Personal Development Awards at D6 have been established to motivate students to engage in a variety of enriching activities, promoting personal growth and community involvement. Students can strive for three levels of achievement: Bronze (15 points), Silver (20 points), or Gold (25+ points), based on the number and difficulty of challenges they complete. Each challenge is assigned a point value from 1 to 5, reflecting its complexity and the effort required. Below is a comprehensive list of personal development activities, along with their respective point values. Each of the challenges also relate to a Aldridge Attribute of Passion, Creativity, Determination, Team work, Risk Taking and Problem Solving.
EPQ Philosophy and Worldviews
All D6 students will be enrolled on an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) during this academic year. This will be delivered under the title EPQ: Philosophy and Worldviews, aligning with the Blackburn with Darwen Key Stage 5 Religious Studies (RS) requirement. The EPQ is a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification, equivalent to half an A-level, and is awarded by AQA.
Curriculum Leadership
Curriculum leadership is where a student is connected to a department in school. This could be a subject that a D6 student is currently studying, wants to study at university or is passionate about. This form of leadership involves helping staff in the department promote their subject within school or at open evenings and other school events, contributing to prospectus or website, in-class support for younger students in KS3 and 4 during study periods, helping year 11 with revision.
Leadership Programme
D6 students are role models to younger students at DACA, Studio and Vale but also to the larger community of Darwen. Being a role model is both a responsibility and privilege and we have encompassed these values into our leadership program that all students participate in.
Executive Student Board
The D6 Executive Board is a leadership opportunity for Year 12 students who want to make a real difference in sixth form life. Running from Easter to Easter each year, this role is ideal for students who are confident, responsible, and passionate about representing their peers.
