Welcome to Kingfisher School
Welcome to Kingfisher School.
I’m Jay Hart, Executive Headteacher of these two exceptional special schools, where we place the personal development of every pupil at the heart of everything we do. Our mission is to prepare young people for their next steps in life—whether in education, employment, or independent living—by nurturing their confidence, resilience, and sense of self.
We are proud to offer safe, ambitious, and therapeutic environments that take into account the diverse needs of all our pupils. By understanding and supporting these needs, we create the conditions for meaningful learning and personal growth. Our schools are inclusive communities where every child is valued, respected, and empowered to thrive.
At Kingfisher and Pitcheroak, we believe that education should inspire, challenge, and support. We work in close partnership with families and professionals to ensure that every pupil receives the care and guidance they need to succeed—not just academically, but as well-rounded individuals ready to make a positive contribution to society in whatever way they can.
Thank you for visiting our website. I invite you to explore further and discover what makes our schools such special places to learn and grow.
Warm regards,
Jay Hart

Apprenticeship
Left Kingfisher school 6th form July 2022. He wanted to work in construction or maintenance and was offered an apprenticeship with the Kingfisher school to work alongside the school caretaker. He is doing really well and benefits from the support he receives from Dave the Caretaker and has managed the transition from student to staff member well. He is a happy member of school staff.

Employed
Left school 2021 and initially went to college and had a part time job in a local pub. He was offered an apprenticeship in the pub and left his placement at college. He came into talk to students about where he is now. He wished he had appreciated school more and had achieved more while he was in school. He has now completed his Hospitality apprenticeship and has a full time job in the pub. He admits it is really hard work having a job compared to school and advised students to take advantage of the support they get at school.

University
Left Kingfisher 2020. Had taken advantage of a college link in Engineering and decided to enrol on Level 2 Engineering at HOW college. Covid happened during her first year in college but she coped and has finished her level 2 course now and is about to start her Level 3 Engineering. She said that Kingfisher gave her a huge amount of support while in school and also when she had left with follow up calls and check ups. She is so pleased that she went to college.
