Welcome Message

The sixth form is a very special time when there is greater freedom and enjoyment as you study your particular interests. At our sixth form we want you to see great success in your studies, to be fully prepared for your future and to be an asset to society. We aim to provide you with a highly supportive environment where young adults are valued, respected and supported.

The crucial choices that you make now will determine your future as you mature into a young responsible adult. The Sixth Form leadership team, tutors and teachers will take a genuine interest in your progress and will be providing a supportive and caring environment where you can thrive. We are very proud of the guidance and advice that we can offer you so that your full potential can be achieved.

Our commitment to helping you prepare for the wider world is being delivered through a programme of enrichment and other accredited awards. Our aim at Wheatley Park Sixth Form is to prepare you for future success wherever that might be. Wheatley Park Sixth Form aims to provide an outstanding learning experience and to prepare students for the future demands of Higher Education and the Workplace. Although our high level of academic success is a key feature, the Sixth Form works equally hard to help you develop your skills, character and level of independence.

We take care to create an environment which has rigorous expectations and to provide students with everything necessary to be successful, yet at the same time retaining a sense of perspective and good humour.

I hope you find many of your questions answered by browsing through the site, however, if you need any further information please do not hesitate to get in touch with us via 6thform@wheatleypark.org

We look forward to receiving your application.

Mr Graham West

Enrichment Activities

Show all activities
Every Wednesday afternoon we expect all Year 12 students at Wheatley Park to be involved in some sort of enrichment activity. This might be about enriching your own experience or enriching the lives of others in our community. We also require all students to be involved in some sort of volunteering. Every Year 12 student needs to choose at least one option from this booklet, however you can choose more than one. You are welcome to create your own experience, but this will need approval from Mr West.

Extended Project Qualification

This begins in April and is a research project, which can be based around any topic - there are no restrictions, as long as it is not directly part of your A level syllabus. All universities look favourably on this qualification and some will lower the grades you are required to achieve in order to study at their institution. It will certainly provide you with vital skills that will be invaluable when studying at university. The project consists of either a 5000 word essay or an artefact (film, performance, website, artwork etc) alongside a 1000 word essay. Whichever option you choose, there is also a presentation to be given to a small group of people - normally the others doing the EPQ, their supervisors and interested others.

Space2Talk

This is the school’s active listening programme, which provides peer support to lower school students. Each year, a small group of sixth-form volunteers receive evidence-based professional training in active listening; the use of non-judgemental listening to build trust and facilitate open dialogue. Regular training and supervision is provided, and support is always available. We represent a safe, confidential and friendly means for students who are struggling to express themselves and feel understood. You could give younger students the confidence to overcome and succeed.

MOOC

A MOOC is a Massive Open Online Course and is an opportunity for you to study a topic which may or may not be related to your A levels. It might be an area that you have an interest in outside of the classroom or it could be something which you are considering as a possible university course or career option. These courses will give you the opportunity to explore a topic at your own pace. There are over 200 courses available.
