Thank you for your interest in the Joint Sixth Form.  Our full prospectus is available to download from the website and you will find details concerning courses, entry requirements, access to bursaries and how to apply.  If you have any questions please contact me at teasdalea@colfox.dorset.sch.uk

I am happy to meet with prospective students and parents and discuss a possible place in the Sixth Form.  The best way to find out about our offer is to come to the school for a discussion and a look around the facilities and classes. We encourage our Year 11 students to talk with current Sixth Formers about their experience.  This may be during our Sixth Form Open Evening, during tutorial time, by arranging a personal interview, or even through attending A Level taster lessons. We will always interview and guide applicants to ensure that the right study programme is available to all learners.

The Sixth Form is combined with Beaminster School and our partnership gives us the opportunity to offer a wide range of courses and for students from both schools to work with new staff and make new friends. We are very proud of our consistent record of academic success in the Sixth Form which has been described by OFSTED as ‘a lively and energetic community where students can achieve excellent academic qualifications’.

The majority of students in the Sixth Form are on study programmes that are aimed towards gaining a place at a university of choice.  We pride ourselves on the high levels of individual support that our dedicated Sixth Form pastoral team provides in helping students find the right courses, and working with students to make high quality applications. The Sixth Form team support all students carefully, so that their full potential is realised.

Beyond achieving excellent academic results we also strive to make sure that all students have opportunities to develop into rounded individuals and gain other important skills and experience. This may happen by taking part in one of many trips abroad  (e.g. New York, India and Ecuador), supporting younger students in the school as mentors, enrolling in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme, taking part in a work experience programme, supporting local primary schools or being a member of one of our dedicated Sixth Form student leadership teams.

Our aim is that all our students will be able to further enrich themselves beyond the classroom.

I look forward to hearing from you with any queries that you might have.

Adam Teasdale

Head of Sixth Form

Enrichment Activities

Show all activities
Our primary aim is to provide students with excellent teaching, enabling students to meet or exceed the high targets that are set for them. Although academic excellence is at the heart of everything we do in the Joint Sixth Form, you can expect a lot more from your time with us.

Social Life, Trips and Visits

Being in a Joint Sixth Form, you have the benefits that come from a meeting of two schools. Effectively, your social life has the opportunity to blossom into new groups and opportunities. Christmas parties and The Sixth Form Prom are obvious highlights of the year, and regular events such as quizzes and meals out help to balance out the hard work that you will be doing! Larger-scale trips and visits also take place each year, including those organised by Camps International and visits to New York City. A Level subjects will enrich their offerings with trips and visits over the year. Expect visits to the theatre, art galleries, geography field trips and visits to the Houses of Parliament to be amongst the many trips and visits organised.

Give Back

During your time in the Joint Sixth Form, you will be expected to play an active role in the school and community. Called ‘Give Back’, these sessions are designed to play to your strengths and help enrich the experiences of children lower in the school and within the larger community. In the past, students have helped in the subject they excel most in, perhaps helping a small group of students improve their reading or helping to run an Art class. Students have volunteered in the Trust’s primary schools and pre-schools, too. The work done during Give Back really enhances UCAS applications to university, giving students valuable experience and an understanding about how institutions work. We will do everything we can to accommodate your ideas for Give Back.

Work Experience

All Year 12 students undergo work experience in the summer term. The school can help you organise a placement that fits your plans for a future career, or works with the combination of A Levels you are studying. We believe that meaningful, engaging work experience is an important part of post-16 study, and as such we encourage students to be proactive around work experience, and support those students who wish to explore more adventurous options! The school monitor all work experience placements carefully to ensure our students are getting the experiences they deserve.
