Welcome to Scott Medical and Healthcare College
Introduction to Sixth Form

Our purpose-built facility and equipment support a high-quality curriculum which will enable students to meet the needs of the highest demand qualifications at Key Stages 5.
At Key Stage 5, we have worked closely with our partners in industry, and at Plymouth University’s new Faculty of Health, Medicine, Dentistry and Human Sciences to deliver the best qualifications for students wishing to follow careers in Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Healthcare, Midwifery, Physiotherapy, Allied Health and many more.
Students wishing to become medics/ dentists have an extensive mock interview programme, undergraduate medic mentors and guidance as to the application and UCAT entry exam process.
All students who follow the healthcare pathway will carry out work experience in a suitable institution. The Sixth Form team will work with students to ensure they are successful in procuring a placement.

Students will then be fully equipped to gain places on the most competitive of university courses and will gain the most rigorous of academic qualifications in Biology, Chemistry or health-related subjects and have regular work placements to boost their CVs and experience.
We also offer a full programme designed to allow students to follow different pathways depending on their career goals. All students are enrolled on a study programme, which typically combines A level, other Level 3 qualifications and activities tailored to each student’s prior attainment and career goals. All study programmes have a core aim; to meet the needs of the individual and prepare students for university, degree apprenticeships, or employment.
All study programmes will include non-qualification activities, which complement the other elements of the programme and support the student to progress to further or higher education (HE) apprenticeship or employment.

September 2021
University
Tegenn, a 3rd year Paramedic Science student at the University of Plymouth who studied the BTEC pathway, shared her experiences, challenges, and triumphs with the eager minds at Scott College. The impact of Tegenn's visit went beyond academic discussions. A poignant moment arose when a year 9 student asked about strokes, seeking advice on supporting a family member who recently experienced one. Tegenn not only explained the signs and symptoms but also went the extra mile by providing a demonstration on how to recognise these signs and offer immediate support until professional help arrives. The return of former students to share their success stories contributes significantly to the positive and supportive community at Scott College. The willingness of Tegenn to invest time and effort in guiding the next generation reflects a commitment to nurturing future healthcare professionals. In the spirit of mentorship and community, Tegenn's visit to Scott College proved to be an enlightening and inspiring experience for current students. Their journey from sixth form to specialised healthcare fields, coupled with real-world insights and practical advice, adds a layer of authenticity to the academic choices students are currently making. As Scott College continues to shape the leaders of tomorrow, the impact of such visits from successful alumni reverberates through the halls, creating a legacy of inspiration and mentorship.
