Welcome to Birkenhead Sixth Form College

We know that every student can succeed. No matter their starting point or which school they come to us from, our unwavering belief in the science behind learning tells us that everyone can achieve great things when purposeful hard work and expert teaching are combined. This belief is proven year upon year when our students’ results outperform all local schools, including grammars. Simply put, students do better with us than anywhere else. Our teachers are not only friendly, welcoming and inspiring, they are also specialists in their fields. They only teach students over GCSE age, so are experts in their subjects and develop students to get the best out of their College experiences. Our students’ personal and academic development are at the heart of everything we do at the College. The decision to come to the College is a big step for any student, and for any parent. Whether coming to us from a high school which has a sixth form option or not, starting somewhere new can be daunting. But, we make a pledge to each and every one of our students that it will be the best decision that could possibly be made after finishing GCSEs. We make this pledge because every year, without fail, we have students and their parents that thank us for changing their lives. That is what we do. Our students flourish, they make life-long friends and they will set themselves up for the next stage in life – university, apprenticeship, employment – whichever path is chosen, the College experience will be the backbone to success. I hope students wanting to begin with us in September enjoy their time in Year 11, and look forward to joining the most successful sixth form in the area next September. University

Birkenhead Sixth Form College gave me the confidence I needed to transition to university. The academic teaching style suited my learning preferences perfectly, and the extensive teaching time was incredibly beneficial. The staff were always supportive, passionate about their subjects, and willing to help with any challenge, big or small. Beyond academics, the extracurricular opportunities at BSFC played a huge role in my personal and professional growth. Serving as a Student Ambassador and participating in the Bar Mock Trial significantly boosted my confidence and helped prepare me for university. Studying Law at A Level wasn't an option at my previous school, so having the opportunity to do so at BSFC reaffirmed my passion for the subject and my decision to pursue it at university. I'm now in my second year studying Law at the University of Manchester and preparing for an exciting year abroad at the National University of Singapore. I wouldn't be where I am today without the support and experiences I had at BSFC!

University

Birkenhead Sixth Form College provided me with invaluable support as I transitioned from high school
to sixth form, helping me develop the essential exam and essay-writing skills needed to tackle
questions in the most efficient way possible. These skills not only boosted my confidence during my A
Levels but also proved to be incredibly beneficial when I moved on to University. The strong
academic foundation I built meant that I was able to adapt to university life much more smoothly,
handling exams and coursework with greater ease. The support I received at BSFC played a huge
role in preparing me for the challenges of higher education.

One of the things I valued most about Birkenhead Sixth Form College was the expertise of the staff. Every teacher is a subject specialist, fully focused on helping students succeed. Unlike school, you're not mixed with younger year groups, and you gain much more independence, creating the perfect transition to university. My pastoral tutor was also incredibly supportive, offering in-depth advice on future options, which was invaluable. During my time at BSFC, I embraced every opportunity. As Head Student, I worked with the Student Ambassador team and represented the college at various events. I also took part in the Bar Mock Trial, beekeeping, and the Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) - all of which helped build my confidence and leadership skills. After BSFC, I studied Environmental Science at the University of Liverpool, graduating with a First-class degree. I then worked with Wirral Council's tree management team and now work for The Tree Council as a Volunteer Engagement Officer, coordinating their national
Tree Warden network. I wouldn't have had the confidence to do this without the experiences and support I gained at BSFC. The college truly shaped my future. and I'll always be arateful for the opportunities it provided!
