The Highfield School

The Highfield School has a successful, supportive and vibrant Sixth Form. We offer students the chance to develop not just their academic achievements, but also other important life skills such as organisation, time management, team working and communication. Our students are encouraged to become truly independent learners and we provide the environment and resources, supporting them to take opportunities and aspire to excellence. Our extensive curriculum offering provides students with a wideranging choice of subjects and as part of the Letchworth Schools Consortium we can offer students the ability to study many combinations of subjects. We follow two-year A Level and BTEC courses and students also complete additional supporting qualifications such as Extended Project Qualification, Arts Award Gold or Core Maths in Year 12. Our students are supported by an experienced Tutor team and our Tutor programme has been created to help students develop skills such as critical thinking, debating and problem solving. We run an enrichment programme which is designed to ensure students are prepared for work and higher education and covers non-curriculum topics such as resilience, wellbeing and first aid. We organise for external speakers to talk to the students to build their wider academic knowledge and boost aspirations. The Highfield Sixth Form provides numerous extra-curricular opportunities which include sporting teams, music and drama and the Duke of Edinburgh award. Our students are encouraged to take on responsibilities such as becoming subject ambassadors, members of student committees, associate governors and also to stand for election to our student leadership team.
