Welcome to Llanwern High School

The Sixth Form at Llanwern High School provides a stimulating, vibrant and friendly setting in which students can continue their academic education beyond GCSE examinations.

The school offers a real breadth of choice of academic provision, complemented by a range of extra-curricular opportunities and facilities in partnership with Caerleon Comprehensive School as part of the Newport East Post 16 Partnership.

We offer a combination of excellent teaching, academic challenge, sound advice and outstanding pastoral care to ensure students have every opportunity to develop their potential to the full. Each year, we warmly welcome a number of students from other schools into Year 12. The curriculum is structured to allow clear progression, accreditation, considerable personal choice and flexibility.  At the core of our programme for every student is the Welsh Baccalaureate qualification. The Welsh Baccalaureate offers a wide and diverse programme of study that develops independent learning skills required for further education and the workplace. The Welsh Baccalaureate motivates students to pursue personal enthusiasms and interests so they have the opportunity to have the breadth, depth and creativity to their learning whilst, at the same time, maintaining a focus on the essential skills of literacy and numeracy.

In our Sixth Form, realistic and appropriate course choice is seen as vital to fulfilling academic potential. Each student’s requirements are assessed individually and progress throughout the Sixth Form is carefully monitored and reported to parents/carers regularly.
