Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi
Welcome to Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi
It is a privilege to welcome you to the Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi website. As I begin my new role as Headteacher, I would like to share my vision for the school — in very simple terms: our vision as a school and community, not the vision of any one individual.
I look forward to listening to the voices of our community — staff, pupils, governors, parents and carers — and engaging with the wider community to understand what is best for us here in Aberteifi.
My values as Headteacher are clear: to build a school community founded on respect, courtesy, ambition and high expectations. My aim is to support the whole school to move forward, to build on the excellent practice that already exists, and to create exciting opportunities for the future.
Wellbeing and tolerance should be at the heart of our values as a society, and it is essential that these are nurtured here in school. Our aim is to create an environment where every individual feels safe, supported and respected – a place where there is space for everyone, and where every pupil knows they are valued, included and important.
It is important that everyone knows we are here to help every individual make progress — progress that is visible and takes many forms. It is encouraging to see so many pupils returning to our sixth form each year, and one of our priorities in the coming years will be to broaden the range of academic, vocational and practical subjects we offer, attracting more learners and meeting the needs of our local community.
At Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi we are proud to offer our pupils a rich variety of opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom. From a thriving programme of sport, drama and music to a broad choice of both academic and vocational courses, every learner can discover and develop their individual talents. We work closely with neighbouring schools and local colleges to expand the opportunities available, ensuring that our pupils have access to an inspiring and diverse curriculum. All of this takes place within a school that has benefitted from significant investment in recent years, meaning we can provide the very best facilities — and the very best experiences — to every pupil who learns with us.
We are also looking forward to welcoming the Eisteddfod Genedlaethol to our area in 2026 — an event that will bring the eyes of the whole of Wales (and tens of thousands of visitors) to the original home of the Eisteddfod here in Cardigan. Pride in our Welsh identity and culture is vitally important, and here at Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi we want to nurture that pride while also encouraging tolerance and curiosity about the wider world and the countless opportunities that exist beyond Aberteifi and Wales.
Every child matters; every member of staff matters. Our goal is to prepare our young people for life beyond their time at school — and for me, having the opportunity to do that here in the town I am proud to call “home” is the greatest privilege of all.
With thanks,

Trystan Phillips (Headteacher)
