Welcome to Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy

It is a pleasure to present to you Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy’s Prospectus. Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy is a community comprehensive school with approximately 640 pupils aged 11 - 18 and this includes around 110 6th form pupils. We are starting an exciting chapter by introducing the new curriculum and moving naturally to category 3 which is a Welsh-medium school. We believe that providing quality Welsh-medium education and experiences to pupils prepares them to be skilled bilingual citizens for our own community and beyond. The school is one that serves the linguistic and cultural needs of the different pupils in the catchment area, whether urban or from rural areas, giving our pupils a Welsh and Welsh orientation and developing their skills and experiences in both languages. The school is situated on a picturesque site in the Conwy Valley, a site that enhances learning. The school provides secondary education for pupils from Llanrwst and the whole of the Conwy Valley. We are proud of our close partnership with our 13 primary feeder schools which helps to secure a happy and smooth transition to secondary school. We hope to provide each pupil, whathever their ability and background, a feeling of self worth and confidence. Our aim is to be a close, welcoming and inclusive community school, working with each pupil to help them achieve their potential. We believe in success for all, aiming to support each pupil to succeed within the curriculum and through a range of varied extracurricular activities. We aim to provide the best possible education to develop confident bilingual learners who have the independence and skills to succeed in the future. In order to achieve this, we offer a broad, appropriate and challenging curriculum. We are extremely proud of the successes of our pupils, academically, in areas of sports and creative arts, and in the world of work and academic study. We are confident that we provide the learning and enrichment experiences that pupils can reflect proudly on. We look forward to welcoming you as prospective pupils and parents/carers to the school. We hope that this prospectus, supported by our website, gives you the information you need to make your decision about attending Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy – as a year 6 transition pupil, as a pupil moving to the local area, or as a prospective 6th former. We encourage you to visit the school to experience our welcoming atmosphere. Open evenings for year 5 and 6 and for the 6th form are held in October and January respectively.
