Welcome to Sandgate School special School

Sandgate is a special school based in Kendal for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

We provide a specialist outreach service which supports Westmoreland and Furness Local Authority mainstream primary schools and private nursery settings through bespoke and targeted responses by focusing on the needs of a specific pupil, staff cohorts or whole school.

Our aims are to support mainstream schools and settings in the district to:

Support the inclusion of pupils with a range of SEND

Identify challenges early for pupils with SEND

Maximise resources and build capacity to improve outcomes for pupils with SEND

Raise expectations in the quality of teaching, inclusion and impact on learning for pupils with SEND

Enable all SEND pupils to gain the most from the educational experiences offered

To ensure an open and community response, Sandgate work in partnership with other agencies from the wider professional community both in Education and the Health Service.
