Course summary

Why Study Photography? The course is designed to encourage creativity, imagination and independence based on personal experience, taught skills and critical understanding, transferable to other areas. To study as a subject that may be either a positive contrast or complement to your other chosen subjects – Fine Art, Contemporary Fine Art, Film Studies, Media Studies, The Social Sciences, Music, Performing Arts, Dance, Criminology. You'll have lots of time to experiment with traditional and new media, using a range of materials to develop your knowledge of 2D and 3D art, craft and design processes and techniques. Developing your drawing skills will be an essential component of the course. You'll choose a theme within which you'll create personal and imaginative work, using the study of other artists, craftspeople and designers to inform your own creative ideas. You'll keep a sketchbook to record and document your move on to through media exploration, idea development, annotation and analysis.

Entry requirements

Minimum Sixth Form Entry Requirement is Five 5s. For this course: GCSE grade 4 in Art. Photography can be taken alongside both Fine Art or Contemporary Fine Art

How you'll be assessed

Exam board: AQA. Component 1 Personal Investigation (60% of the final grade): • a portfolio of practical work in response to a brief or stimulus, devised and provided by the centre • a related study: an extended response of between 1000 and 3000 words. Component 2 Externally Set Task (40% of the final grade) 12 week prep period and 15 hour exam
