Paper 1 ‐ Literary Genres Aspects of tragedy. Studying three texts: Shakespeare, drama and pre‐ 1900 poetry. A written exam of 2 ½ hours . 40% of A Level. Paper 2 – Texts and Genres Elements of crime writing. Studying three texts: one post 20th Century novel, a collection of poetry and pre‐1900 literature. A written exam of 3 hours. 40% of A Level. Non exam assessment – Theory and Independence A study of two texts: poetry and prose, informed by a study of the Critical Anthology. Two essays ‐ individual tasks chosen by each student. 20% of A Level.
