Compulsory Units - Students will develop an understanding of: ∙ Collecting and sampling data ∙ Representing data numerically ∙ Representing data diagrammatically ∙ Numerical calculations ∙ Percentages ∙ Interest Rates ∙ Repayments and the cost of credit ∙ Graphical representation ∙ Taxation ∙ Solution to financial problems ∙ The modeling cycle ∙ Fermi estimation Statistical Techniques - Students will develop an understanding of: ∙ The normal distribution ∙ Population and samples ∙ Confidence intervals ∙ Correlation ∙ Product moment correlation co-efficient ∙ Regression lines This is a problem-solving course and hence will form the bedrock of many careers and different types of employment (many of which might not yet exist!) as a supporting subject. The course will also prepare you for the mathematical demands of many degree courses, such as Geography and Psychology, for which the mathematical understanding required is high, but not as substantial as in Advanced Level Mathematics.
