Course summary

Overview of Course British History (The Early Stuarts and the Origins of the English Civil War): Students will learn about the problems faced by James I and Charles I in ruling England, Scotland, and Ireland at the same time but as separate Kingdoms and how religion, finance, foreign policy and power struggles led to Charles I fighting his parliament during the English Civil Wars. Russia (Russia in Revolution: 1894-1941): Students will learn about the problems faced by the last Tsar of Russia, Nicholas II, and how a combination of his failings and the First World War led to the collapse of Romanov rule in 1917. USA (Civil Rights in the USA 1865-1992): A breadth study in which students will learn about the development of civil rights across the whole period of four groups of people: African Americans; Trade Unions and Workers; Native Americans; and Women. Non-examined assessment course essay: Students will choose a historical inquiry of their choice to research and answer. This can be on any aspect of history not covered in the examined units and should result in an essay of around 4000 words and supporting research.
