Course summary

Learning A-Level French with us is not just about vocabulary and grammar. You will learn about history, culture, philosophy, politics, society, art, literature, music, geography, traditions and festivals. You will see the world in a completely different way and broaden your horizons and open your mind. In the first year, you will study two main themes and six sub-topics. You will look at the changes in French society, changes in family structures, education, and the world of work. You'll then explore the political and artistic cultures in French-speaking countries, pay particular interest to music, media, festivals and traditions. You will also complete an in-depth study of Mathieu Kassovitz’s cult film “La Haine”. In your second year, you will study two further themes and six sub-topics. You will look at immigration and France's multicultural society. You will study the positive impact of immigration on French society, look at the challenges of immigration and integration in France, and explore the far-right theme, occupation and resistance, the Vichy regime, and the French Resistance. In addition, you will undertake an in-depth study of the contemporary novel “No et Moi” by Delphine De Vigan.
