We follow the OCR Biology A specification which is divided into topics, each covering different key concepts of biology. The practical skills are integrated into the theoretical topics and are assessed through the written papers. Module 1 – Development of practical skills in biology Module 2 – Cells, chemicals for life, transport and gas exchange Module 3 – Cell division, development and disease control Module 4 – Energy, reproduction and populations Module 5 – Genetics, control and homeostasis
- Grade 6 in biology plus a grade 6 in another science subject OR Grade 6 in higher Additional Science and grade 6 in higher Core Science - To qualify for the Sixth Form we require all students to have at least 5 grades 4 or equivalent in a range of subjects.
Paper 1: Fundamentals of Biology 110 marks 2 hours 15 minutes written paper (41% of total) Paper 2: Scientific literacy in biology (02) 100 marks 2 hours 15 minutes written paper (37% of total) Paper 3: Practical skills in biology 60 marks 1 hour 30 minutes written paper (22% of total) Non-Examined Assessment: Practical Endorsement in Biology (reported separately)
