Assessment

You will be assessed throughout the year through class-based essays and past papers. You will sit mock examinations in January and June of Year 12 and in January of Year 13. At the end of Year 13 you will sit the examination (two papers). Paper 1 is 2 hours, 84 marks, 35% of A‐level. Questions will focus on issues and debates in the media. Paper 2 is 2 hours, 84 marks, 35% of A‐level. Questions ask for analysis of media products with reference to the CSPs and other products. Understanding the contexts in which the products were created is essential. You will answer short answer and extended response questions. You also must complete a non‐exam coursework assessment by creating a media product: 72 marks, 30% of GCSE. This assesses your application of knowledge and understanding of the theoretical framework and practical skills relating to the media format of the student’s choice, from a selection. Students produce a statement of intent and cross-media products for an intended audience.
