Course summary

This course will allow you to become truly fluent in your chosen language. You will learn about many interesting and unexpected aspects of the cultural heritage, history and politics of any country where your chosen language is spoken. You will also have the opportunity to study a film and a literary work in the target language. In studying a language you not only develop a deeper understanding of the language itself and the culture associated with it, but you will also build a wide range of transferable skills, including problem-solving, independent research skills, how to analyse and synthesise ideas as well as, of course, outstanding communication skills. Topics include: Aspects of society in the countries where the target language is spoken • The changing state of the family • The digital world • Youth culture: fashion and trends, music, television Artistic culture in the countries where the target language is spoken • Festivals and traditions • Art and architecture • Cultural heritage Other topics throughout the whole course include immigration, racism, politics, the EU and country-specific history.
